Your Mind is not Enough for This
Love Notes on Liberation 12
In the U.S. and the world over, we are witnessing chaos and abuse that our minds can’t process. What we are seeing is not logical. It is not moral. Cruelty doesn’t make sense. It is hard to accept reality.
There have been days upon days my own mind aimed to destroy me with ruminations and wishing it was not so. The only way I keep surviving is by being here, in this moment, quiet, breathing, slowing the seconds down to take right now in. I tell myself what I see in my immediate surroundings and feel in my body, and I let myself, if only for a moment, feel awe and even glimmers of joy. I keep coming back to my heart and waiting for wisdom there.
Your mind will tell you to stay small and hope danger passes, but your heart knows caring for our humanity is what is called for. I believe that if we take care of our hearts and our spirits we will be led naturally to right action. It is when there is discord within ourselves that we are lost and hiding in the face of the unimaginable.
So how do we live in this space of conflict, and how do we fortify ourselves in times of violent oppression?
We need our hearts and spirits to process reality and meet the moment.
Our spirits speak to us in symbolism and archetypes. Our hearts speak in feeling and resonation. The energy of this year is both warrior courage and deep wisdom.
I am feeling empowered, inspired, and motivated by the fire horse: the symbolic representation of the energetic signature for 2026 from Chinese astrology. I’ve created an energetic mood board for this year. Spending time contemplating the images is nourishing my soul and it’s one way I am aligning with my spirit.
To take care of my heart, I’m giving it lots of love and listening. I’m drinking cacao instead of caffeine, making channeled art, connecting with loved ones, and feeling my grief and my hope. I am also giving myself quiet time to just be present and feel my experience with the support of nature (thank you trees).
As we are going through big shifts on a journey in new terrain, we are being asked to take a leap of faith into our heart’s desire trusting “the way knows the way.” Trusting we are following a thread back to something ancient and true, something our spirit understands.
Times are so hard, but I am hopeful that everything being revealed is making space for us to say we choose what is more loving and beautiful…we choose what is just.
Taking care of myself behind the scenes is allowing me to meet the moment and show up in a true way.
What feeds your spirit, takes care of your heart, and soothes your nervous system?
Do that too.
With care,
Emily
